VanderSloot History - English - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Generation 2 Personal Document: Antonius van der Sloot
Antonius was the eldest son of Petrus van der Sloot and Petronella van den Brand and was the only child in the second generation to carry on the van der Sloot family name. According to his birth certificate, he was born in District C (Gemonde) at number 26. The witnesses for his birth were Jan van den Broek (age 30) tailor, and Antony Mandos (age 40). All the appeared informants, except Peter van der Sloot, who declared he was unable to write, signed Antonius’ birth certificate. On the 17 July 1858, Antonius married Petronella van der Heijden. According to her birth certificate, Petronella was also born in District C (Gemonde) at number 56. The informants for her birth were her grandfather, Johannes van der Heijden (age 60), and her unwed mother, Cornelia van der Heijden (age 22, maid by profession). The witnesses for Petronella’s birth were Arnoldus van den Oetelaar (age 60, farmer) and Laurens Habraken (age 58, market salesman). Also noteworthy on this birth certificate is a change of the given name from Johanna to Petronella, which was confirmed by the registrar of the Registration Service. Her mother, Cornelia van der Heijden died 12 December 1834 at the same home in District C (Gemonde) at number 56. Petronella was less than 20 months old and was likely raised by her grandmother. At any rate, she was registered with her grandmother, Johanna van Nunen, and aunt, Wilhelmina van der Heijden, in the Boxtel census of 1840 in Gemonde at number 62 (Census Records Boxtel 1840 Book 6). At this time, she was a seven-year-old girl registered as a spinner, as were her grandmother and her 22-year-old aunt. The death certificate of Cornelia van der Heijden shows that her father, Johannes van der Heijden, was deceased. Upon inquiry, I found that he had passed away on 15 April 1834, exactly one year after the birth of his granddaughter Petronella. To the marriage union of Antonius and Petronella 10 children were born, which will be covered in the next chapter, Generation 3. Antonius and Petronella around 1898
